Case study: Keeping a regulated business online during an office move

Client: Mid-sized, regulated financial-services firm

Delivery partner: Liberty Caribbean ICT (LC ICT)

Objective: Move the company’s core IT equipment, including servers, storage, and network devices from the old office to the new one without interrupting normal work.

When a mid-sized financial-services firm planned an office move, they had one non-negotiable: stay online while the physical equipment moved. LC ICT delivered exactly that, using a backup-first plan that kept systems running from a secure off-site copy, then switched everything back once the new office was ready.

Our approach

  • Run from the backup site first: Before any packing started, we pointed the firm’s systems to a secure off-site copy—this is called Disaster Recovery (DR). Staff continued working normally while the on-premises equipment was shut down and moved.

  • Shut down and prepare the equipment: We powered down servers and network devices in a controlled way, labelled the cables clearly, and prepared the rack for the movers.

  • Move and reconnect: The movers transported the rack to the new office. Our engineers reconnected everything, powered it up, and checked that internet access and internal systems were working.

  • Switch back from backup to the main system: Once the new office systems were stable, we moved operations back from the off-site copy to the main setup in the new location (often called failback).

  • Test and handover: We followed a clear test list, confirmed day-to-day tasks worked as expected, and handed everything back with simple “how it’s set up now” notes.

What this meant for the client

  • Continuity: Staff were able to continue working while the equipment was in transit.

  • Control: A documented plan, checkpoints, and regular updates throughout the weekend window.

  • Confidence: A calm cutover and a clean “all clear,” with updated diagrams and notes for future reference.

Why this works

Putting the backup environment (DR) to work during a move removes time pressure and risk. If anything unexpected happens, you simply stay on the backup until the main systems are ready - no scramble, no surprises.

Technology at a glance

Nutanix (NCI + Prism):
LC ICT runs your servers and storage on Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), managed through Nutanix Prism (part of Nutanix Cloud Manager). This hyperconverged platform includes built-in replication and Disaster Recovery (DR), so we can operate from a secure off-site copy during the move and switch back once the new office is ready.

Our in-house capability (certified):
LC ICT designs, implements, and maintains Nutanix environments end-to-end: cluster build/expansion, AHVvirtualization, protection & replication policies, planned failover/failback, monitoring and health checks in Prism, patching, and performance tuning. Team certifications include NCP/NCAP (Nutanix Certified Professional / Advanced Professional).
